It is extremely important to understand that many of these settings ONLY apply to features displayed through the use of the (!MAINBODY!) tag (discussed here). Depending upon how your templates are set up, you may be using MODULES to display certain content. Those MODULES will NOT be affected by the settings on this page of the admin. To edit a module's settings, you will need to access that module directly.
Category Settings
Display Categories/Subcategories This setting turns "on" and "off" the display of the category navigation on the pages of your site that are using the (!MAINBODY!) tag within the template assigned to that page. The category navigation can be displayed above the normal browsing results if this setting is set to "yes". This affects the display the current categories and subcategories displayed above listing results tables on your browsing pages.
Display Category/Subcategory Counts If you choose to display the normal category navigation you can turn "off" and "on" the display of the category count through this control. Remember that this setting will not have any affect on any Category Navigation Modules that you may be using.
Listing Type Order for Category Counts Choose the sequence to display the category count. You have various self-explanatory options that allow you to display the classifieds count first, the auctions count first, etc.
Include all Subcategory Listings This setting allows you to display/ not display a category’s sub-categories listings within the current category. If you have a “motors” category with subcategories of “trucks” and “cars”. If this setting is set to “yes” the trucks and cars listings will appear in the motors category when you are viewing it. If set to “no” the “trucks” listings will only appear in the “trucks” category and not in the “motors” category also....same would go for the listings in the “cars” category.
Category Display on Home Page This setting controls the number of columns used to display the main categories when they are displayed on the home page. This only affects the display of the main categories if the “display category navigation” is set to “yes” and if the (!MAINBODY!) is used through the template assigned on the home page.
Subcategory Display while Browsing Listings This setting controls the number of columns used to display the categories on the browsing pages. This only affects the display of the sub-categories on pages other than the home page.
Display Category Description while Browsing Listings Check to yes if you wish to display the category description below the category name when browsing pages.
Display the 'No Subcategory' Message If set to 'yes' and there are no subcategories to the current category a message will be displayed stating that there are 'no subcategories to display'.
Display Category Tree (Breadcrumb) while Browsing Listings -and- Category Tree (Breadcrumb) Location This setting controls the display of the category tree which displays the categories above the current category. You control whether or not to display the category tree but also whether to display the category tree above, below or above and below the current category’s subcategories.
There are also several category tree navigation modules that can be used to display the category tree in other parts of the template. These category tree modules can enhance the display of the standard category tree display or replace it. Each category tree module can have its own display/css variables but are only useful on the category navigation pages. They can be found here:
PAGE MODULES > BROWSING > CATEGORY TREE DISPLAY MODULES
Photo/Icon Settings
Thumbnail Type If you choose to display the photo column while browsing the listings you can then choose to display either a photo icon (such as a camera) that you set below or display an actual thumbnail image of the first photo uploaded within the listing. If you are concerned about page load times, then the icon is the better choice. The user can still see that a photo is attached but browsing can be sped up considerably.
Thumbnail Max Size This is the maximum height and width of the thumbnail image used while browsing. This will only affect the thumbnail size if the thumbnail is displayed while browsing. This will not affect the photo icon. The thumbnail’s width or height dimensions will not exceed the maximums specified but the image will be displayed proportionally.
Featured Thumbnail Max Size This is the maximum height and width of the thumbnail image used while browsing the featured listings. This will only affect the thumbnail size if the thumbnail is displayed while browsing featured listings through the normal pages. This will not affect the photo icon. The thumbnail’s width or height dimensions will not exceed the maximums specified but the image will be displayed proportionally.
"New Listing" Time Limit Set the time limit on whether to display the “new listing” icon or not. If a category has a recent listing entered within the time you specify, the “new listing” icon will appear next to that category’s name within the category navigation. If you do not want to display the new icon set this to “no display of new listing icon”.
"New Listing" Icon URL If using this feature as indicated by the previous setting, specify the url of the “new listing” icon you want to use. The icon will appear immediately next to the category name within the category navigation around the site. This is the icon that will be used within all category navigation whether it is within a module or within normal category navigation display.
"No Photo" Icon URL Specify the url to an image that you want to display instead of leaving an empty space when the user does not upload a photo with their listing.
"Photo" Icon URL This is the url of the photo icon you wish to use if you have set the previous “display thumbnail photo or photo icon” setting to icon. This must be either the absolute url (http://www.....) or the relative link with respect to the top file of the listings system. This is usually an image of a small camera, or some image to indicate that the user uploaded a photo with their listing.
"Help" Icon URL Several pages have “help” links within them. This is the icon used to click on when these help icons need to be displayed. This is the url of the help icon you wish to use. This must be the absolute url (http://www.....) or the relative link with respect to the top file of the listings system.
"Sold" Icon URL If an item has sold, but the seller does not want to remove the item from the site yet, they can access their listing within their "My Active Listings" page and designate the status of their listing to "sold". When they do, the image you specify in this field will show up on the Listing Display Page next to the title of the listing.
"Buy Now" Icon URL Use this field to indicate the image that you want displayed when a seller uses the “buy now” function when placing their listing.
"Reserve Met" Icon URL Use this field to indicate the image that you want displayed when the reserve price for a particular listing has received a bid that exceeds the seller’s “reserve price”.
"No Reserve" Icon URL Use this field to indicate the image that you want displayed when the reserve price for a particular listing has not been established by the seller.

Post-Login Landing Page You can choose which page the user is directed to after they login here...to the user management home page or the site wide home page. Upon successful completion of login the user will be directed to the page you choose.
WYSIWYG Editor Size for Descriptions Specify the width and height (in pixels) of the WYSIWYG editor used to enter listing descriptions. The WYSIWYG editor must be set to "yes" in order for these settings to take affect. You can turn on/off the WYSIWYG editor (some editions refer to it is a 'rich text editor') within this menu:
LISTING SETUP > GENERAL SETTINGS
Textarea Size for Descriptions Specify the width and height (in Columns/Rows) of the TextArea editor used to enter listing descriptions. The WYSIWYG editor must be set to "no" in order for these settings to take affect. You can turn on/off the WYSIWYG editor (some editions refer to it is a 'rich text editor') within this menu:
LISTING SETUP > GENERAL SETTINGS
Number of Listings per Page This setting determines the number of listings that will be displayed on any given page of browsing results when browsing for listings by category.
Number of Featured Listings while Browsing Listings This setting determines the number of featured listings that will be displayed if you choose to display featured listings within the normal category results. This setting does not affect the number of listings displayed within the featured listings modules. Each of those modules have their own individual controls for the number of listings to display and must be set within each modules controls.
Time to Cache Category Listings while Browsing Listings This will only affect the sub category browsing links if “display category navigation” is set to yes. This can greatly improve page load times if you have several categories to display. The category browsing results are saved for the amount of time that you set here. The results are rebuilt once the age of the previous results has been reached. The problem is the category count is included in the cached version...the category count will not renew until the new cached copy is rebuilt.
ZipSearch Addon Installed Choosing "yes" will allow your clients to search for listings within a certain distance from any zip code they enter. This feature will automatically display as a search criteria selection on the Search Page. It may also be used as a selection in your own html <FORM> that you can create and insert on any one of your html page templates.
Search Page Setup You can choose to use the default search form located on the search page or choose to create one of your own. If you use the default search form, it is a dynamic form that pre-populates with search criteria fields (category questions, optional site wide fields) automatically depending on which category the user was browsing when they clicked the search button.
Or, if you decide to use your own html search form, simply create a separate html template, replace the (!MAINBODY!) tag with your own search form html, and assign your new template to the “Search Page” in the Pages Management. We suggest that you first view the source on the default search form to determine how it is set up and where it is pulling it’s information from. Then, use that information to help you develop your own search form. Keep in mind that when you use your own search form, you will lose the “dynamic” pre-populating feature that you get with using the default search form. This because your search form will be html with the specific fields you enter. The typical search page pre-populates the fields based upon the chosen category.
An advanced feature of the Enterprise software is that it allows you to specify a different Template for each Category Search Page. This means that you can disable the default search page using this setting, and set up a different search form (would require a template for each category's fields) and assign that template on a category by category basis through the "edit category" section of the Categories Setup.
Require Login to Contact Seller Choosing yes will require the users to register and log in to contact the seller.
Require Login to View Listings Choosing yes will require the users to register and log in to view the Listing Display Pages. They will still be able to browse the site's categories, but not view the Listing Display Page until they log in.
Default Order of "Classifieds" while Browsing Listing This setting is typically used for "directory" type sites. It allows you to specify the default order in which the classifieds are displayed while visitors are browsing categories. Normally, classifieds are displayed by "newest first" as a "default". However, this setting lets you specify the "title" for instance as the default sorting column for all listings.
Default Order of "Auctions" while Browsing Listings This setting is typically used for "directory" type sites. It allows you to specify the default order in which the auctions are displayed while visitors are browsing categories. Normally, auctions are displayed by "newest first" as a "default". Therefore, this setting lets you specify the "title" for instance as the default sorting column for all listings.
Currency Format This determines what format numbers are displayed in. The American system uses a period to denote the decimal point and a comma to denote each multiple of 1000 in a number, while the European system uses a comma to denote a decimal and a period to denote each factor of 1000. The Japanese method uses no decimal point.
Only “Subscribed” User can View or Bid on Listings (beta setting) Choosing yes will require the users to have a subscription in order to view and bid on listings.
Phone Number Grouping This setting affects how phone numbers are formatted to support non-U.S. formats. This setting affects all 'phone number' settings on the site, including 'fax number' fields if used.
Phone Number Formatting This settings allows you to choose how phone numbers are displayed on the site.
Expired Listings Cutoff Expired listings older than the value you specify in this field will not appear on the user's Expired Listings page. Those listings will still be archived in the software's database, but they will not be viewable or accessible by the user. |
