Add New Category

The highest level of category that you can add into the system is at the "main" level. When you click on the Categories Menu for the first time, you will see several system default categories. These are the "main" (or top) level categories, that are typically displayed on the very front page of your site. You can delete all of these initial categories and add your own or simply add to the current default list.

To add a new category at this level, click the "add a category to this level" link at the bottom of the page. To add a new category (child) to an existing category (parent), click the parent category's name in the list, and then the "add a category to this level" link.

On the "Add New Category" page you will see several fields that are explained below:

Category Order

This is order in which the new category will be displayed relative to all other categories at this same level.

URL of Category Icon

If you would like to display an icon (image) in front of this category's name, enter the absolute or relative path (URL) to that image in this field.

Listing Types Allowed

If you would like to limit this category to only "classified ads" or "auctions" listings, click the appropriate radio button. When a user attempts to list an item in this category, your choice here will be their only option. Otherwise, leave the default setting to allow both types of listings.

Category Name and Description

Type in the name of your category that will be displayed throughout your site. You also have the ability to give your category a description. The description is entirely optional. The description will display on your site only if you have that switch set to "yes" on the following page:

SITE SETUP > BROWSING SETTINGS

important IMPORTANT: If you are using a Category Navigation Module within our templates to display your categories, each module has it's own specific settings and should be manually adjusted to suit your needs. To do this, access each module in the Page Modules menu.
